Support Pharmacist – Part-Time, Fixed-Term Contract

O’Flaherty’s Pharmacy, Athenry Shopping Centre

We are looking for a friendly, professional and customer-focused support pharmacist to join our team from September 2026 on a one-year fixed-term contract.
The position would suit a pharmacist seeking regular part-time hours in a welcoming, community-based pharmacy. The proposed schedule includes one day each week which would include two Saturdays per month, with a weekday worked on the alternate weeks.

About the pharmacy
O’Flaherty’s Pharmacy is a well-established independent community pharmacy located in Athenry Shopping Centre. We pride ourselves on providing a personal, professional and dependable service to our customers.
The successful candidate will be supported by two experienced dispensary team members each day, together with a knowledgeable and well-established OTC team. We place a strong emphasis on teamwork, patient care and maintaining positive, long-standing relationships with our customers.

Main responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
• Provide a high standard of professional, patient-centred care and excellent customer service.
• Dispense prescriptions safely and accurately in accordance with PSI requirements and pharmacy procedures.
• Support the delivery of services provided under the pharmacy’s contracts with the HSE.
• Provide professional advice to patients and customers on medicines, minor ailments and general health matters.
• Work closely with the supervising pharmacist, other pharmacists, technicians and OTC staff.
• Ensure all legal, ethical and professional standards are maintained.
• Follow the pharmacy’s standard operating procedures and contribute to their ongoing implementation.
• Maintain accurate records and assist with the timely completion of relevant claims and administrative requirements.
• Support the efficient day-to-day running of the dispensary.
• Maintain an ongoing commitment to continuing professional development and keep all required training and certification up to date.

Requirements

Applicants must:
• Be registered with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland.
• Have excellent communication, interpersonal and customer-service skills.
• Be professional, reliable and comfortable working as part of a team.
• Demonstrate a strong commitment to patient safety and high-quality pharmacy practice.
• Have completed, or be willing to complete, the training required to participate in all pharmacy service programmes.
• Maintain their CPD and professional competence in accordance with PSI requirements.
Previous experience in community pharmacy would be an advantage, but applications from newly qualified pharmacists will also be considered.
